Rocker Courtney Love’s New Clothing Line Comes Under Scrutiny

Creativity fuels the soul. When we’re creative, time stands still, the mind explodes with wonder and ideas, and passion exudes from every pore. Bottom line, the world is a mad, mad, place.

Very few creative types are truly originals, even fewer are perhaps what you would consider successful, but one thing all creative people share is passion for their art.

And this brings me to rock icon, Courtney Love, who recently debuted a new fashion line she calls, “Never the Bride”. Love first tweeted photos of her clothes back in October. Since then, it’s made headlines in various online publications like Huffington PostThe Hollywood Reporter, and the Daily Mail.

But one thing that hasn’t been discussed in these articles is the back story to the story.  And it involves an award winning Austin, Texas based fashion designer, named Dawn Younger-Smith, aka “Boudoir Queen”.  For a short time, Dawn designed and sold clothes to Courtney Love. They were also involved in a very public defamation lawsuit- one that Love lost.

Dawn is an old friend of my husband’s….

BREAKING NEWS: WE WILL BE RADIATED TO HELL IN 3 MONTHS!!!!

I just logged onto Huffington Post and apparently, come this summer, we are all FUCKED!   According to this scary article, the US will be radiated to hell and back before the Fall.

Now, not only does this news have me rethinking my request to my husband tonight to consider having just one more baby (the result of holding a 4 month old boy today at work),  but I’m now also rethinking my decision to grow out my hair again.  What’s the use?  Odds are it will all fallout come August….

A pregnancy reality check….

When I saw the photo of Jessica Simpson in the red dress last week, I immediately thought day’um!!  Simpson reminded me of ME when I was pregnant: MASSIVE, swollen and uncomfortable.  Basically, she too is all tummy and boobies (yes, I said boobies).

And then I saw her Elle Magazine cover today.  Yes, that Simpson looks NOTHING like the pregnant me.  As I stare at this flawless photo, I’m thinking that all 8 month pregnant women MUST get hair extensions… it does a big belly wonders.

Second thought, it’s cheaper to invest in Adobe Photoshop.

GAS STATIONS GOUGING YOUR DEBIT CARD

It appears there is a new way that gas stations are gouging customers when they fill up. And I’m not talking about near record gas prices, but rather when you use your debit card to fill up at the pump.

Did you know that many gas stations are starting to charge a “hold” on your checking account to make sure you have the funds to cover the purchase?

This happened to my mom over the weekend near Seattle, Washington. Here is an email I received from her this morning:

“I got gas Saturday and when checking my bank account noticed a charge on hold for $126.00 along with the hold of $28.75 which was my purchase. I called my bank this morning and found out many gas stations are hold $100 to $126. from your account to assure you have the funds to cover your purchase. So I found out this hold will be on my account until Wednesday. This is three full working days.

You gotta watch this if you run your funds close to the wire in your account. They said one way to avoid this hold is to go inside the station to pay for it with your card. That is considered a point of service transaction so no hold. He said even Costco, Safeway and other store held pumps are doing this.

This really ticks me off. Think about it, if you filled up twice in a week or two cars you could have $250.00 on hold in your checking account. YIKES!”

I did some googling… and it appears this has happened to people across the country.   Bottom line, if you use your debit card and you can’t afford to have your money “held up”,  it’s probably best to go inside the station and pay.

****UPDATE FROM MY FRIEND AMY CLANCY WHO IS A CONSUMER INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER AT KIRO TV IN SEATTLE*********:

“Tara, this has actually been going on for years —- and we’ve covered it before.  That’s why the gas station payment machine “asks” whether you’re using debit or credit.  If you’re using debit —- they put a “hold” on it to cover the expense and more.  With credit, they don’t.  Annoying, huh?  Another reason I very rarely use my debit card.  In fact, I never use it for anything other than withdrawing cash.”

I’m Angelina Jolie… and You Are Not

The video version of the story that I produced for Current TV (The Young Turks) on Conservatives Bashing the new animated feature film “The Lorax”.  The cast also speaks out about the film’s environmental message and Republicans charge that global warming is a “hoax”.

More from the premiere of “The Lorax”  here  and here.

CONSERVATIVES BASH “THE LORAX” & THE CAST TALKS ABOUT “GLOBAL WARMING HOAX”

Republicans and Climate change. Critics say it has become the “theology of the outrageous”.

From “drill baby drill” to calling global warming “a hoax”, the conservative right has been turning up the heat of their anti-environment message in the race for the White House.

Back in June 2011, current GOP front runner Rick Santorum told Fox News, “There is no such thing as global warming,”

During a Republican presidential debate in Florida on January 27th, Santorum accused his challengers, Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney, of “buying into the global warming hoax.”

This week, Fox Business Network’s Lou Dobbs took to the climate debate to a ridiculous new level.

“Now the unmentionable: a story that you will not hear anywhere in the liberal national media,” warned Dobbs Tuesday night on his show. “Hollywood is once again trying to indoctrinate our children.”

He added, “The president’s liberal friends in Hollywood targeting a younger generation by using animated movies to sell their agenda to younger children.”

Dobbs big concern: a children’s book that is being made into a new feature film. Universal Studios is bringing the Dr. Seuss classic “The Lorax” to the big screen on March 2nd. The film, like the four decade old book, is about a creature who “speaks for the trees” and the consequences of not taking care of the environment.

Dobbs even suggested to his viewers that the film’s pro-environment message has ties to both Occupy Wall Street and President Obama’s recent battle over the payroll tax in Congress.

“If you read too much politics into this, you are missing the point,” said actor Rob Riggle who voices the villain “O’Hare” in the movie. “The film’s message “caring for your environment” could apply to every child, regardless of their parents being left or right.

The world premiere for “The Lorax” was held Sunday at Universal Studios Hollywood. I was there to ask the cast of the movie about the film’s message.

“As an individual you have so much power, adds actor Zac Efron who voices the charter of “Ted” in the movie. “All it takes is one idea— one small thing to make a difference.”

I also asked a few of the actors about Rick Santorum’s assertion that global warming is a “hoax”.

“To call it a hoax, it’s not responsible,” said Ed Helms, the star of “The Office” and “The Hangover” who also voices the character “Once-ler” in the film. “I would think that a position like that is born out of an abject ignoring of scientific data,”

Actor Danny Devito voices the title character “The Lorax”.    Devito, a well-known Democrat, had sharp criticism for the Republican presidential candidates.

“I just think it’s a great thing if Rick Santorum gets to be the nominee for the GOP party so we can listen to him and Barak Obama, our great president, debate,” said Devito. “I’m waiting for Mitt Romney to shoot himself in the other foot and then we can have a good debate between the very conservative Christian right and people who are more moderate.”
